The Vane Arms is situated in the country village of Long Newton just off the A66 midway between Darlington and Stockton. It dates back to the early 19th century, when it was known as the New Inn and was owned by numerous pub companies before sadly going the way of many country pubs these days - closed down and abandoned. However, after two and a half years closure, the Vane reopened in 2009 under the ownership of villagers Jill and Paul Jackson who have strived incrementally to create the type of pub that is hard to find these days. A pub that concentrates on providing good beer, good food and comfortable accommodation.
There is no jukebox or pool table, no children’s menu, no micro-waved pre-packed meals delivered in chiller vans. The TV in the Bar (there is no Sky) is only on for limited events, background music plays quietly in the Lounge, the Bar is for over 18s only where dominoes and cards are played in front of an open fire. However young adults under 18 are welcome in the Lounge under supervision until 9.00 pm.
Why not pop into an old traditional pub for a quiet drink and an individually and passionately prepared meal, say hello to Jill and Paul and be sure of a warm welcome!
See you soon. Jill and Paul!
